Virginia is for (Wine) Lovers

Happy Friday everyone!  I mentioned last week that B and I were going to visit some wineries before he headed off for a month-long work trip, so now I get to share one of my favorite VA wineries with you and a new one we just discovered.  For those who don’t know, Virginia has a ton of wineries all over the state and they are amazing!

Just about 50 minutes outside of DC, you will find one of the most beautiful wineries in the Northern Virginia area, Barrel Oak Winery.  I spent my birthday here last year and fell in love with it.  BOW has a large barn with a main common room, two side rooms, and lots of outdoor space, so it is perfect for large groups.  Tastings start at $7, and as of this past weekend, they had a light/floral tasting and a more robust/strong tasting.  I did the Sparkling Tasting (champagne, prosecco, etc.) which was special for Valentine’s Day.  The special tasting also came with a rose and chocolate, which totally won me over!

Bonus Tip – they have a brewery now, so there is wine AND beer.

As for their wines, the Cabernet Franc, Barrel Chardonnay, and Chocolate Lab Dessert Wine (amazing with chocolate!) are my favorites.

We also headed up the hill (literally up the hill and right across from BOW) to Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery.  Compared to BOW’s casual barn vibe, Blue Valley is super lux.  It’s relatively new, so there is tons of space to spread out and you don’t have to worry about loud groups of people. Blue Valley’s Merlot is really good.  Virginia red wine is not my favorite, but their Merlot may have turned me into a believer.

My outfit is an oldie but goodie, so I linked my pieces below the picture above.  However, I thought this post should be dedicated to one of girl’s best friends – vino.
