Loft fringe tweed shift dress (super on sale!)
Manolo Blahnik ‘BB’ pointy toe pumps
Work wear for me is a daily struggle. It’s what I wear the most, so I need to make sure I look good in whatever it is! But I just cannot myself to spend a ton of money for work clothes. Especially when I can use my $$ towards bags, shoes, and oh so many other fun things! After a little over 2 years of adulting, and in the true style of this blog, I’ve put together a work wardrobe mixing low-end and high-end pieces. To do this, I’ve put together a list of must-have staples. These are the items you will constantly wear and mix and match with other pieces, so they should be good quality and you can afford to splurge a little.
Work Wear Staples
- A pair(s) of black pants – I have 3 pairs of pants/leggings that I transition through. I just picked up these Halogen Skinny Ponte Knit Pants (they’re pretty much thick leggings…shhh!) and I’m going to live in them this Winter.
- Pencil skirts – I have this J.Crew No. 2 pencil skirt in 3 colors, and 2 different fabrics. The fit is flattering on everyone and it’s such a great basic. Plus, because it is J.Crew classic, it goes on sale through the seasons.
- A pair of flats and a pair of nude heels – I am all about comfort at work, especially during the cold, so I have been rocking these mules like crazy. My Manolo pumps are a splurge, but I honestly wear them at least 1 or twice a week, so they have earned their keep! The color and style is classic, and they are pretty comfy!
- A great work bag – I have multiple bags, but I love the basic Longchamp ‘Large Le Pliage’ Tote for just dumping my computer and papers into! It’s inexpensive, but looks great!
Once I’ve gathered they key pieces, I can mix and match them with so many things. I have a plethora of affordable work tops and dresses, from Loft, J.Crew, J.Crew Factory, and Target. Each season, I can add a couple of new items, and make tons of new outfits with my closet staples. This Loft tweed dress is a new piece for my Fall/Winter work wardrobe. I think the slight A-line cut is adorable and I can’t wait to pair it with some leggings and boots. My friend Lauren layered it with a thin black turtleneck, and I think that is such a great idea!
The dress fits TTS and I am wearing a Small Petite. I could have gone with a regular size, so it would be a little bit longer, but some tights/leggings on colder days with shield my legs!
